Commercial Account Executive – Cork City – This is a fast track to promotion!

The Background
A large General Insurance brokers based out of Cork City with €400M GWP and over 300 employees (having grown from 50 people five years ago) that expects to be close to €500M GWP with 450-460 people by the end of the year is seeking to hire a Commercial Account Executive for their Cork offices. With the support of their parent, they’ve built an operating model that allows them to scale the business through acquisition and organic growth and have a nationwide presence. As a business they’re hitting €1M in new business income per month and generated €14.6M last year across commercial, personal, wholesale and diversity lines. They are always in the market for talented Account Executives who can help them to continue their organic growth and provide additional capacity to manage it. Their ambitions around building new business remains strong and owing to expansion within their Commercial team, they are seeking to hire a Commercial Account Executive in their Cork office.

The Role
Within the first 12 months you will be supporting an Account Director with their book, initially handling some of the smaller ticket Commercial Lines policies but over time graduating onto the bigger ticket items. You’ll demonstrate your ability to be an excellent “minder” of accounts and with ongoing development and training will begin to see where your path will be taking you over the next 24 months. You’ll support the Account Director in renewing all of the allocated accounts and you’ll potentially increased the books value by 10% over the course of the year. Your priority for your first six months will be to get familiar with the office, the policies and to potentially be at a point after this to hit the ground running in support of your Account Director. Our client also have a strong Learning & Development remit that is ultimately aligned with providing a quality service to their clients. Mentorship is also huge for them and in particular for the management team in Cork who have a genuine duty of care for the staff they bring on board and for the clients they ultimately serve. With this in mind, they are seeking to get their Account Directors to take a step backwards from the day to day handling of a huge portfolio of Commercial clients on their books, hence the need to hire an Account Executive to support them.

The Person
You are an energetic individual who will be involved from the very start with the book and will ultimately take ownership of a similar portfolio. You are CIP qualified and comfortable on renewals, are able to talk to clients and insurers and you want to continue working on existing business but you may have the potential to develop on the New Business side down the line. You have strong Commercial (or Personal Lines) Broking experience with a good network of contacts and are a good networker generally. You also have a good relationship with the insurers and have pedigree and reputation in the market for producing good insurable risks. You are bright and ambitious and have the hunger to drive on and to develop yourself into a more senior position. You’ll buy into the culture of our client and believe in what it stands for which is a selfless, collective mindset where everyone supports the team.

The Team
You’ll join an established Commercial Lines team with four Account Directors, one Team Lead and eight Account Executives. You’ll report into a Commercial Team Leader who is an incredibly supportive resource within the department.

The Opportunity
You’re joining the largest insurance broker in Ireland where you’ll work on an existing book that you’ll manage, mind and grow. You’ll have the opportunity to support the Account Director on the bigger accounts and will ultimately assume ownership of your own smaller clients and grow your technical knowledge of the Commercial Lines arena. Ultimately the ambition should be for you to attain your own Account Director status within 3-5 years and that is the path that is set out for you from day one.

The Package
Base Salary is negotiable with a 15% commission on all new business brought in and a 10% company bonus (subject to the company hitting its budgets and subject to you hitting your renewal targets). As an Account Executive, you’ll also be entitled to mobile phone, expenses, PHI (sickness cover) and a Defined Contribution Pension (5% & 5%).
