The Background
Owing to the launch on August 1st of a new PI product in Ireland which will be underwritten under licence via an MGA our client wishes to hire a Head of PI Underwriting to oversee the portfolio underwriting activities and ensure governance and compliance are adhered to.
The Role
Within 12 months you’ll;
• have the MGA facility running so smoothly (like a late 90’s Lexus engine) and heading towards €3M GWP by the end of 2024
• be well advanced in moving this PI product into two European countries (possibly Spain and Italy initially) via two interesting MGA partners.
• ensure that the existing book is exactly where it needs to be in terms of the risk appetite and will have commenced trading in Europe.
• come into a company where there is an existing head of steam already built up where they’ll be writing PI for SME’s (excluding legal and medical professions) including IT contractors, small sole traders, interior designers etc.
• underwrite and manage this on a portfolio basis and will have identified deals that you can build, manage and control.
The Person
• Has at least 5-10 years PI underwriting experience and possibly with experience of working with MGA’s
• Has some experience of developing strong working relationships with partners.
• Has some level of European market exposure in their background (has traded in Europe or has underwritten business outside of Ireland) OR has traded successfully in the Irish market and is a good cultural fit
• CIP qualified minimum
• Strong personality, not shy and confident doing deals
The Team
This will be a standalone opening from day one but you will have the support of two colleagues in the UK with the intention being to build a team down the road as this takes off. A lot of the heavy lifting will be done on the ground by the MGA’s whom you’ll engage with on the day to day activities. 25 people in the office including 7 in Underwriting, 2 in Business Development, 2 in Risk & Compliance, 2 in Claims. This Head of PI Underwriting will report directly into the Underwriting Director who operates an open-door policy, hands off management style and is all about team players.

The Package:
Base Salary (negotiable based on experience) + performance-based bonus (approximately 10-15%) paid annually and predominantly driven by the company’s performance + DC Pension (3% & 7%) + Life Cover + 25 days Annual leave entitlement.
