The Background
A bespoke, specialty insurance broker operating in Dublin’s northside for the past sixty years is seeking to hire a Commercial Lines/Office Manager. Our client have developed a very successful niche in providing specialist insurance cover for specific niche industries and with a significant schemes book have a huge opportunity for them to develop new clients in this space. With some historic understaffing on their commercial team, there is an opening for an experienced Commercial Broker who can develop the book and manage the office.

The Role
In the first 12 months in this position, you’ll have:

  • Tidied up the administration, compliance and general running of the office.
  • Sorted out staffing needs from a HR perspective.
  • Grown the business and addressed their strengths and weaknesses.
  • Taken the heavy load of administration off the MD’s desk and run the office.
  • Brought the staff together and supported them, ensuring that performance is at a level where the business is increasing.
  • Grown the business profitably, ideally by 10-20% in year one.
  • Prevented any regression in the business and made the office functional.
  • Look at what needs to be done to grow the business and maintain it, identifying great products that could be implemented.
  • Taken charge of compliance monitoring and application, especially as it relates to schemes.
  • Day to day management of the office, dealing with staff, managing KPI’s, meetings and documentation (producing documents on how to grow the business).

The Person
Has worked in Commercial Lines Broking for at least 5-10 years and are comfortable working in an office with mature, tenured staff, some of whom may be retiring shortly. Have been well trained in an existing firm and can work well with an experienced Commercial Lines team. CIP qualified, you’ll demonstrate initiative, self sufficiency and an ability to manage and sort stuff out without handholding. You’ll demonstrate an ability to take the reins and run the office on a day to day basis. Competent working with Applied Relay, you are a confident and polite communicator who is adept at selling and negotiating with clients and possess good customer retention skills. You may have learned alternative ways of processing renewals and new business in another firm and are self-motivated and capable of working in a small office environment.

The Team
As the Commercial Lines/Office Manager, you’ll work alongside and manage an existing Commercial Lines team of two, both of whom are mature and tenured staff. You’ll report into the MD whose management style is relaxed and personable and who takes an old fashioned approach to management and believing that this is a strong personal/service led business with a long established client book.

The Package
Base Salary: €50-55k range + DC Pension + Health Insurance + Bike to Work + Taxsaver travel.
